After reading some of the responses you have written to other issues with Windows Live Mail, I realized that I should have specified that Computer 1 is using Windows 7 and Computer 2 is using Windows 10 Version I am using Windows Live Mail The only account using Windows Live Mail is the email service provided by my internet provider.
On reviewing my computers activity a little more closely, if it makes any difference, the only change that occurred to both machines on November 1, , was a Windows Defender security update. I did try to see if I could uninstall this update but it says that it cannot be removed. Might this have broken my Windows Live Mail ? I did go to my internet provider website to try to find your suggestion to "Allow less secure apps I have rechecked all the email account configuration information as suggested and they are correct This was confirmed by my internet provider when I telephoned them initially to see if they were having any server issues.

You never said you have two computers, and both have this problem! That makes a big difference. You can't possibly be suffering from both computers having the same fault independently -- not when one of them is not running Windows That also rules out the possibility that this is due to a Windows 10 update.
No way can such an update have affected your Windows 7 machine!! Two machines can't simultaneously suffer a random corruption of their IMAP e-mail settings. That's a thousand to one against. Your e-mail provider has made a change to its service. That's blindingly obvious, if two machines are affeted in an identical manner. As Windows Live Mail doesn't support them, you must enable "Allow less secure apps The only way to continue using Windows Live Mail is to switch to a different email service e.

Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Thank you so much for your help. I followed your recommendations. Initially I was not successful. By stumbling around I was finally successful. I shut off my firewall and went to properties. I went to the advanced tab and unchecked "this server requires a secure connection SSL and all of the emails in limbo suddenly downloaded.
I went back and checked the box again turned on the firewall and new emails kept coming. I am not sure why this worked but it did. I have printed off your recommendations and will keep them for future reference.
